Gold Bangles - Still the Most Popular Jewelry in Pakistan

Ask any Pakistani woman about her first piece of gold jewelry - chances are it was bangles. They're worn daily, gifted at weddings, passed down through generations. Here's what you need to know before buying.

Types Available

Plain Polished are your everyday bangles. Shiny, simple, round or flat. 4-12 grams each with the lowest making charges at 8-10%. Perfect for daily wear.

Carved/Embossed have patterns etched into them - florals, geometric designs, traditional motifs. Slightly heavier at 6-15 grams with 12-15% making charges. Good for occasions.

Meenakari is the colorful Hyderabadi style with enamel work in red, green, blue. These are 8-18 grams with 15-20% making charges. Pick these if you want that traditional festive look.

Stone-Studded bangles have Kundan, Polki, or CZ stones. Wedding and party wear. 10-25 grams each with premium making charges of 18-25%.

Kada is a single thick bangle worn alone or with thinner ones. 15-50 grams. Popular as wedding gifts.

Weight Guide by Occasion

For daily wear: 4-6 grams each, 2-4 pieces is enough. Office wear: 6-8 grams. Parties: 8-12 grams, 4-6 pieces. Wedding guest: 10-15 grams, 6-8 pieces. Bridal sets: 12-20 grams each, 8-12 pieces.

Getting the Size Right

Pakistani sizes run from 2-2 (children) to 2-10 (extra large). 2-6 is the most common size.

To measure: wrap a tape around the widest part of your hand (across the knuckles) with fingers together. That measurement tells you your size.

Buying Tips

Always try them on. Wrong size means wasted money.

Check the edges. Rough edges will scratch your hands all day.

Inspect clasps on openable designs. A faulty clasp means it'll fall off constantly.

Most jewellers accept exchanges. You'll lose the making charges though. Some shops have buyback programs. Keep your bills - you'll get better value with documentation.
